A Note from the Founder:
The idea behind Teach to a Child came from my own struggles as a parent and teacher of neurodivergent children.
I struggled with the school district to get the services that my daughter needed. One day I got a call from her teacher, from her private number. She told me exactly what I needed to file, with the proper verbiage needed. However, I had to promise that I would not tell where I got this information and that she would have to deny it or lose her job. Teachers should never have to be in that position!
Years later I went to school to become a teacher myself, and I was shocked at what teachers are required to do. They have scripts of what to say, the expected responses, and how the lesson plan should play out. There is very little accommodation for children who learn differently. As a person who does not fit the square mold myself, it was hard for me to transform myself into that box, let alone expect all 'my kids' to conform to one way of teaching.
It is our job as adults to honor and respect the whole of the child, to bring them up to be naturally curious, to love the discovery of filling their mind with new information. We need to help them to explore all modalities of learning - through books, speech, physical play, movement, music, and even playing in the dirt.
Let us come together to honor the learning potential in your children!
Teach to the Child and Nova Haven Learning Hub are designed to meet the needs of children who are neurodivergent. We recognize that every child has a unique way of learning that is specific to them. Whether it be learning from reading, listening or doing, to the many intricacies that lie within those boundaries - we get to know each child personally in order to design a learning environment that works best for them.
Our staff will find, or even personally design, curriculum that introduces content to your child in a variety of ways that best suit them and their interests. This individualized approach helps them increase focus, improve desire to learn, opens their mind to the new ideas and allows it to flow into their long-term memory.
Some of the methods that our teachers incorporate are movement, music, physical design, game play, and much more. We strongly believe that learning concepts are to be presented in a multitude of ways to allow the learner to process concepts from many angles, neurologically speaking.
We find that all students benefit from this approach, neurotypical, neurodivergent, twice-exceptional, and gifted.
